KELY SUPPORT GROUP

Objective

In Hong Kong, academics are often a big aspect in a teenager’s life, and it undoubtedly causes a lot of stress to them. As a result, youths will lean towards smoking or doing drugs as a copy mechanism. While it may be temporarily stress relieving and a way for students to forget everything, it has both short and long term negative effects.

Therefore, I joined KELY support group to learn more about the cause and effect of smoking and doing drugs, while simultaneously spreading mental health awareness and alternative copying methods to teenagers all over Hong Kong.

KELY Support Group: About

Pitch

As part of a mental health awareness project, I pitched a scheme to help spread awareness for the effects of smoking and doing drugs, with the hope that teenagers can improve their mental health state with different copy mechanisms as opposed to harmful methods.

The pitch was divided into two parts - online and within school. My pitch was to use KELY support group’s Instagram account to post a google form link, where teenagers could share their stories and negative experiences with drugs anonymously. The submissions would then be posted anonymously, and students in schools would participate in a competition by creating their own videos of what they would do in the situation, and how they would respond appropriately.

I believe that this pitch would be sustainable and meaningful, since many youths today connect through social media, therefore Instagram would be an ideal platform to reach out and support them. By letting teenagers submit their stories anonymously, they would be able to let out what they’ve bottled up and receive helpful advice on what to do while maintaining their privacy. They would not have the fear of being judged by others for their experience, and they would be able to help a friend in an incident or start their recovery journey.
